Support for Windows Server 2003 Ends Today. Are You Prepared?

With Windows Server 2003 Support Ending Today, PrinterLogic Enables Enterprises to Eliminate Print Servers for Easier Migration

St. George, UTAH—July 14, 2015—Today Microsoft ended its support of Windows Server 2003, leaving many enterprises with unsupported servers. To aid enterprises looking to transition, PrinterLogic, the leading Enterprise Printer Management solution, today announced a simple migration plan for all organizations needing to update their Windows Server 2003 servers. With PrinterLogic’s web-based printer management platform, enterprises of all sizes can reduce their migration time from months to hours.

“With estimates that over 10 million machines are still running Windows Server 2003, it is clear that many organizations are simply overwhelmed by the prospect of migrating their servers,” said Jarrett Taylor, CTO and Founder of PrinterLogic. “Everyone knows that migration from Windows Server 2003 to Windows 2008/R2 (or 2012/R2) is painful—not to mention expensive—when migrating your print environment. But it doesn’t have to be.”

PrinterLogic’s single integrated platform enables enterprises to avoid print-related issues during server migration, regardless of whether companies decide to pursue a server-replacement or a server-consolidation strategy. Its on-premise web application can be installed in a matter of minutes, removes the single point of failure that print servers introduce, and eliminates the need for tedious and costly reconfiguration of print settings.

The PrinterLogic Windows Server 2003 Migration Plan consists of two different paths, depending on the enterprise’s strategy:

Strategy #1—Replacing Old Hardware with New Servers
When replacing old servers with new servers, the enterprise can easily migrate the file, DNS, DHCP and other services to the new server using Microsoft’s standard migration wizard. But instead of dealing with the problems of migrating the print service to the new server, the enterprise can instead use PrinterLogic to simply convert all existing printers to a centrally managed Direct IP printer environment and manage it through an easy to use web-based administrator. The enterprise keeps all the same printer drivers, all of its printer settings are maintained, and its users will never notice a change.

Strategy #2—Data Center Consolidation
To cut costs and increase efficiencies, organizations are consolidating as many servers and applications to the Data Center as possible. Print servers are consistently very difficult to centralize for many reasons, including heavy print job traffic on the WAN, requiring the use of scripting and GPOs and they act as a single point of failure. With PrinterLogic, enterprises are able to easily convert its end users’ printers to a centrally managed Direct IP printer environment and manage it through an easy to use web-based administrator. Once again, the enterprise keeps all the same drivers, all of its printer settings are maintained, and its users are never interrupted. With this solution the enterprise can eliminate the need for the print server altogether and complete its server-less office or server consolidation/infrastructure simplification initiatives.

Regardless of the size of the enterprise, the number of servers that need updating, or the strategy they wish to undertake—PrinterLogic can help eliminate the issues associated with migrating print environments. This helps ensure uptime of print servers during migration while reducing cost and help desk calls for the enterprise.
