What rights are needed to install the Printer Installer Client?

If users are administrators of their computers they will be able to install the Printer Installer Client. If your end users do not have administrator rights you can simply install the Printer Installer Client as a service using the PrinterInstallerClient.msi or PrinterInstallerClientSetup.exe file with a group policy or any 3rd party deployment software.

What rights do the end users need to install a direct IP printer from the portal?

There are no required rights.  Once the Printer Installer Client is installed even a simple "user" can install a direct IP printer.

Can I install direct IP (TCP/IP) printers with Printer Installer?

Yes.

Can I install Windows shared printers with Printer Installer?

Yes.

Can I install LPR printers with Printer Installer?

Yes.

Can I install printers that are being shared from a Windows print server?

Yes. Simply create a "Shared Printer" object and your end users will be able to install the Windows Shared Printer from the portal.

Can I host Printer Installer on my own Web server?

Yes.

Can I import my printers from a Microsoft print server and convert all my end users to direct IP printers?

Yes. Use the built in printer import feature to import Microsoft printers into Printer Installer and then set the Printer Installer client to automatically convert the existing end user printers to TCP/IP printers.

Can I import my Novell NDPS printers into Printer Installer and convert all my end users to direct IP printers?

Yes. Use the built in printer import feature to import NDPS or iPrint printers into Printer Installer and then set the Printer Installer client to automatically convert the existing end user printers to TCP/IP printers.

Can I import my Novell iPrint printers into Printer Installer and convert all my end users to direct IP printers?

Yes. Use the built in printer import feature to import NDPS or iPrint printers into Printer Installer and then set the Printer Installer client to automatically convert the existing end user printers to TCP/IP printers.

Can I pre-configure the device settings and preferences so when end users install a printer they get the settings I specify (paper trays, duplex, paper size, etc...)?

Can I "push" printers to end users automatically if they are a member of an Active Directory group?

Yes.

Can normal users without any rights, self-install TCP/IP printers from the portal?

Yes.

Can normal users without any rights install or delete per-workstation Windows shared printers?

What is the service-level agreement (SLA) for Printer Installer support?

How is Printer Installer licensed and what happens when the license expires?

Printer Installer has a two licensing options: subscription and perpetual. The subscription license option allows you to purchase a subscription to use the product for a specified time period, usually annually. Once the subscription time period has expired the product will no longer function (users' printers will remain installed and continue to function) until a new subscription license is purchased. The subscription includes support and maintenance during the subscription period. The perpetual licensing option is licensing with no expiration on the software itself. The first year of support and maintenance is included with the initial perpetual license purchase. Please contact sales for pricing on both licensing types.

Can Printer Installer v4 or older customers with maintenance upgrade for free?

Yes. In Printer Installer 4 and older versions, the licensing model has been a product version license with an optional annual maintenance license to cover support and upgrades. The new version of Printer Installer has a subscription license where you buy a subscription to use the product for a specified time period. With a current Printer Installer 4.x maintenance license you can upgrade to the latest version of Printer Installer for free. When your current maintenance expires, you will need to buy a Printer Installer subscription license to continue using the new version of Printer Installer.

After purchasing Printer Installer can I buy additional licenses?

Yes, in groups of 50 licenses. The cost will be the current cost and will be pro-rated (rounded up or down to nearest month) so that the licenses co-terminate with the initial licenses purchased. Once we receive the PO# or authorizing email, we send the new license file with the additional printer count and the billing invoice.

After purchasing Printer Installer can I reduce the number of licenses that I will renew?

Yes. When you renew your subscription you can decrease the number of licenses as long as you are above the minimal license count (currently 250).

Can I lock in the current license cost for additional years?

Yes. You can lock in the current cost buy purchasing additional subscriptions for multiple years up front.
