Shared printer is not publishing in Printer Installer Administrator

Problem:

After creating a Windows Print Server Link, one of the printers on the Windows print server is not being published to the Administrator.

Note: If the printer is being published, but not published to the folder of the matching IP address range object, click here.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

  1. The printer is not shared. Mark the printer as shared and then right click the Printer Installer system tray icon on the print server and select refresh.
  2. The printer name has a space before or after the printer name. Remove the space and then right click the Printer Installer system tray icon on the print server and select refresh.
  3. The printer share name has a space before or after the printer name. Remove the space and then right click the Printer Installer system tray icon on the print server and select refresh.
  4. The printer share name does not match the printer name. Change the share name to match the printer name and then right click the Printer Installer system tray icon on the print server and select refresh.
  5. The printer port is not a valid port. Try configuring the port that the printer is using, if you can't configure it, delete the port and recreate it, and then right click the Printer Installer system tray icon on the print server and select refresh.
  6. View the WPSL errors. Go to the Printer Installer Administrator > Tools > Windows Print Server Links page >and mouse over the error value for the host print server, does the message help?
  7. The printer is a duplicate printer. Is there a printer with the same name, share name, and port on a different server that is being published to the same folder as the printer that won't publish?  If so, there is an update (07/20/2012) available to fix this problem, contact support.

If none of the above fix the problem, send the following items in an email to support:

  • export and zip the  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers, registry key
  • the print server's C:\Windows\Temp\PPP\Log\PrinterInstallerClient.txt file.
  • include the name of the printer that will not publish to Printer Installer Administrator.
